The video linked below explains how to run an ELISA and Western blot, using one of the HIV cases as an example. This video tutorial was made using an older version of the software (Case It v606). Although this video is suitable for use with Case It v704, ignore the section on saving photos of results, as that feature is no longer supported. Instead, use the built-in software of your Mac or PC to capture screen images (Preview or Screenshot on the Mac, Snipping Tool or Snip n Sketch on Windows).
Note: As of 2010, Western blots are no longer used for HIV testing, so the HIV cases (and other cases using Western blotting as a diagnostic tool) should be considered historical in nature. The CDC guidelines mentioned in the video are thus obsolete. Western blots are still of value in laboratory settings, and give very accurate results but are more time consuming than more modern methods of testing for HIV and other conditions. More important than the method used are the personal issues raised by testing, issues that are addressed in questions accompanying each case.
